Ector County Jury Awards $49M to Family of Man Killed in 18-Wheeler Crash

A jury in Ector County has awarded $49 million to a family for a fatal crash that killed the husband and father in Midland in 2025.

The man, Steffan Robert Mick, 29, died after an OPG Logistics 18-wheeler turned left in front of him on FM 307 on January 27, 2025.

Jurors found the driver, Biorkys Sanchez Fernandez, failed to yield the right of way and made an unsafe left turn, causing the crash.

The jury also found both the driver and OPG Logistics grossly negligent.
